Xi Omicron held elections last week and the next executive board has been chosen! It’s been one hell of a journey up till now and it seems like Alpha Kappa Psi is in good hands for the next year. I was elected as the chapter’s next Vice President of Marketing and I could not be happier. I joined this fraternity as a marketing major and I’ve had my eyes on this position for a long time. To win this position, knowing that a brotherhood of over 50 people supports me, is very fulfilling. I just can’t wait to get started.
I’ve been in Alpha Kappa Psi for a year now and this will be my first leadership position in the fraternity. That doesn’t mean I haven’t stepped up in other ways. I found plenty of work to keep me busy and involved within the fraternity. The first thing I did as a newly initiated member was run for pledge instructor. Unfortunately I didn’t get the position, but the experience taught me a valuable lesson. Life Isn’t always about winning, it’s about finding out who you are.
The next semester, I decided to find out a little bit more about myself and join men’s lacrosse. There was a time when I was so involved in lacrosse that my time with the Alpha Kappa Psi was very limited. Instead of choosing between the two organizations, I managed my time efficiently enough to be involved in both. Lacrosse requires me to be physically present, but a lot of what happens within the fraternity, happens behind the scenes. I thought the fraternity could benefit from one of my other skills, so I formed my own committee. I’ve always enjoyed writing so I offered to write a monthly newsletter. This is a job for at least three people, but I managed just fine by myself; and with much success! I love this fraternity and I’m very passionate about my role here. I was happy to step up for Alpha Kappa Psi before and now it’s my time to step up again.
It will be my pleasure to represent and promote Alpha Kappa Psi for the Xi Omicron Chapter.
